Main Points

  1. Quarrels and fights among men trace back to one source: passions at war within the man himself.
  2. Friendship with the world is spiritual adultery — God is not one option among many, He is a jealous God who yearns for what is His.
  3. Submission to God and resistance of the devil are not separate steps — one unlocks the other.
  4. Mourning over sin is not weakness; it's the move that precedes God lifting me up.
  5. Judging a brother doesn't make you a doer of the law — it makes you a judge who placed yourself above the law.

Heat Check

Truth meets action. How does the Word shape the way I am living. Forge real change in me through obedience, accountability and daily application.

My Passions Will Expose Whether I Am a Submitted Son or a Self-Sovereign Enemy
I let my unmet desires drive conflict and call it circumstance, or I trace the war back inside and submit it to God.
I maintain friendship with the world while calling myself a follower of Christ, or I choose full devotion and accept what that costs.
I resist the devil on my own strength and wonder why nothing changes, or I submit to God first and then resist with authority.
I laugh off my sin and call it grace, or I mourn it honestly and humble myself before a God who exalts the broken.
I judge my brothers and put myself above the law, or I leave judgment to the one Judge and focus on becoming a doer.
I build my own kingdom through selfish prayer and worldly alliance, or I surrender to the will of the King and trust His ways.

Closing Thoughts

Closing Thoughts

Help me refine every spark of insight and conviction into a singular, solid truth before I move.

What am I holding back from full submission to God right now? Not in theory, but in the specific area I walked in with tonight?
Write down one plan, one relationship, one habit I have been unwilling to fully submit to God. Surrender it this week. Not just in feeling, but in action.
Tell one person close to me one thing I've been resisting God about. Ask him to pray over me. Then ask him to check in by next week.
Prayer

Prayer

First step is always prayer. I can not do this on my own. LORD, my GOD…Lead the way.

Heavenly Father,

Proverbs 12 reminds me that I am a fool right in my own eyes, but when I listen to the counsel you have placed in my life, I have wisdom. I thank you for the 4th chapter of the book of James and his wisdom. I pray that I draw close to you Lord. I know that the devil is still trying the same tricks he has always tried to use. I pray that I can see what he is using in my life, and I turn the laughter of that behavior in the world it into mourning. I pray that I separate myself from the world and instead of joining in on that behavior that I be a light. Let me no longer say “everyone else does it”...for when I join in, I'm a mere light under the basket. Give me the strength to not join in, but to be like a city built on a hill, LORD. Give me Your strength to fight the battles You have already won. Place me in the full armor of God so that when I am fighting the whispers of the devil in my ear to be apart of this world that I am wearing the belt of truth. I am holding the shield of faith to extinguish those flaming darts and the sword of the spirit, Your Word Lord to let him know that when I speak the name of Jesus he must flee. And flee he will and I will reign in your honor and your victory against another failed attempt. Lord, thank you for your grace. Thank you for your patience. Thank you for your love. Help win this battle against my flesh.
